In an era in which the airlines have been cutting back on everything from free soda and snacks while making you pay extra for checking in a bag, it is good to know that at least that they are adding some services to their list: It has been released in the news that United Airlines is setting up some of their aircrafts to accommodate passengers who want to use their iPods and iPhones.
They plan to outfit their international flights with new entertainment systems that are equipped with a 30-pin connector that will attach to the dock connector on the iPod or iPhone.
The system was developed by Panasonic Avionics and was scheduled for its first use on a flight from Washington D.C. to Zurich on June 16th, there has been no report on how iPod users found this new way of using their iPods on the flight to date.
United Airlines plans to have all of their international flights fitted with the new systems within the next two years. This service is planned to be installed in first class and in business class for passengers by the airlines.
The personal TV has approximately a 16-inch screen and with the docking connection it will allow passengers to watch their own programs and movies on a larger screen.
